Raja Kesavadas was born at a small hamlet called Kunnathur on March 17, 1745 in the erstwhile Kingdom of Travancore. He was the Dewan of Travancore during the reign of Dharma Raja Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma. The houses which he had constructed for his mother and sister still exists at Kunnathur, a place which is located some 5 Kilometres from Marthandam.
Though many of the historical places in Kanyakumari still undergoes devastation, it is a great relief for us to see the ancestral house of Raja Kesavadas still stands high. The historic abode at Kunnathur is no doubt a reminiscence of the glorious past of Travancore dynasty. A book written by Advocate Late Radha Nair sheds more light on the life story of Raja Kesavadas. Mr. Narayanan Nair is ever ready to help students of history to learn more about one of the greatest Dewan's of Travancore, Raja Kesavadas.
