Thirparappu, famous for its waterfall is located on the banks of Kothayar river at a distance of 42 Km from Nagercoil and 55 Km from Trivandrum. The Thirparappu scheme was inaugurated by the last ruling Maharaja of the princely state of Travancore, Sree Chithra Thirunal Balarama Varma on the 11th of February, 1948. This scheme has been instrumental in the development of tourism at Thirparappu.
The reduced amount of water due to the scorching heat of the sun has not altered the scenic beauty of this place. The Temple, situated at the banks of the river is believed to have been built by king Raja Raja Chola of Chola dynasty during the ninth century. The stone cut pillared pavilion situated just opposite the Temple reminds us of the architectural expertise of the Travancore Kingdom.
Its quite notable to see a second pillared pavilion right in front of the Waterfall. This beautiful pavilion is often flooded by the waters of the river during the monsoons. The experience of pedestal boating is a memorable one to the tourists. This short documentary would not doubt have wet your appetite. It would be worthwhile to make Thirparappu your next Holiday spot.
